Aircraft Drawings and Sketches

I have done many drawings of real and fanciful aircraft.  I enjoy doing both.  The real aircraft takes a bit of skill to accurately portray the vehicle, while the fanciful can be fun and creative.  You can design what hasn't been done. To enlarge the pics, just need to click on it.  Enjoy!

A character that I call Colonel Quasy appears quite a bit in my fanciful sketches and doodles.

A Regional IPMS Model Contest for 1984 was coming up and I was asked for a few sketches of ideas to work with for brochures and advertising. I first started with the aircraft that I am most familiar with, namely the McDonnell Douglas Aircraft.

My favorite would be the F-18 and I drew several for obvious reasons.

Then I tried some combinations to see how they would mix together.

I then tried shading and gradations to add some depth and detail.  The center cluster turned out pretty good and hoped that this would be picked.

I added it to other ideas for the Regional paperwork to see what it would look like.  There are other ideas in here that I will return and use again.

The IPMS Logo was to be the background, so I sketched some more ideas.

A more polished presentation was produced.

Later, after the Regional, I came back to my F-18's to continue the development of the drawings.  First some shading for more depth.  It didn't add the punch that I was looking for.

I added some bold markings.  Now we were getting somewhere.  This is a technique that Rick Sternbach from Star Trek fame uses.

I added some variation to see what they could produce. Some worked well and others needed some more work.  The last version gives the raw power look that I was looking for.
